In 1973, Richard Eggleton, the
founder of Borderline Australia, invented the first of a long line of
specialised machines, by cobbing together a few bits and pieces he had lying
about.
He has this idea that would
revolutionise the domestic and commercial garden scene forever and that idea
was free-form concrete garden edging. And like the ubiquitous Victor lawnmower
and the Hills hoist before it, it took Australia by storm!
At the heart of
it all was a tiny little self-propelled machine.
No others may claim they were the first, but it was Richard who not only
conceived it, but also developed it into what we see today. After the initial
research and development manufacturing was commenced in 1979, and the first
machines were marketed in 1980.
